The author begins the chapter by clearing out our conception which dictates that a child confined within its crib is helpless and an inactive being. But in reality these cribs are a complete universe in themselves. In these cribs, the child develops, they develop into being complete beings where they develop new languages. The author then describes how their research is about the deep rooted facts regarding the strange little creatures known as children. Developmental psychologists have time and again tried to comprehend the unique intricacies of child psychology and behavior. They have even referred to children as being the closest to alien psychology they would probably ever get. Children are entire units in themselves that do not abide by the laws of developmental psychology which older people adhere to.
